Sport: Fastpitch Softball
Career Record: 735-503-1

Head coach Bob Coolen entered his 23rd season overall in 2009 and 18th season at the helm of the University of Hawai‘i softball program. He is UH’s all-time winningest softball coach with a 663-410-1 record at UH. Overall, Coolen is 735-503-1. In 2008, Coolen guided the ‘Bows to a 40-21 record and a 10-7 conference record which placed them in third. Hawai‘i advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second straight season and eighth time in school history. Coolen has led Hawai‘i to three conference titles—a pair of WAC crowns in 2003 and ’07 and the Big West title in 1994. Coolen’s teams have recorded 15 winning seasons in 17 years.

He is the only coach in UH softball history to lead teams to the NCAA tournament. They’ve played in the postseason eight times (1994, ’95, ’98, ’99, 2001, ’01, ’03, ’07, and ’08). In December 2008, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association honored Coolen at the Easton Victory Club luncheon for reaching the 700-career win mark. Coolen was one of only a select few Division I coaches to be recognized for reaching significant milestone victories. Currently he is in the top 30 amongst active coaches in victories. In his 18 seasons as head coach at UH, he has coached 13 All-Americans, 26 All-West Region players, and 45 all-conference players. Twenty-six of his players have earned Academic All-WAC honors as well. Coolen’s 18 seasons at UH is the longest in program history and third longest amongst current Hawai‘i head coaches behind women’s volleyball coach Dave Shoji (34years) and sailing coach Andy Johnson (20 years).
