The California Golden Bears softball team represents the University of California -Berkeley in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in the PAC-10 Conference. They are currently coached by twenty-first year head coach Diane Ninemire who reached another milestone in her storied Cal tenure in 2008 with career win No. 900, in a 15-7 defeat of Long Beach State on Feb. 29. Ninemire has accumulated the second-most wins in Pac-10 history and is the 11th softball coach in NCAA history to have 900 or more win.

In 2008, Cal advanced to its third Super Regional appearance since the NCAA adopted the Super Regional format beginning in 2005 … 2008 marked Cal’s 23rd straight NCAA postseason appearance … Cal was an at-large selection from the Pac 10 Conference … the Bears won the Fresno Regional, coming through the winner’s bracket. Cal’s 490 hits were third in the Pac-the sixth-best mark in the school history and the Bears accumulated a school-record 279 RBI (third in the Pac-10). The timely hitting led to a bundle of runs as well as Cal crossed home plate 318 times, second most for a season in program history and third best in the PAC-10.
